I’m a science teacher in New York City and a member of the Executive Board of my union, the United Federation of Teachers (UFT).

I started teaching in 2014. I had been in a Biochemistry PhD program, but left it to teach after becoming inspired by the Chicago Teachers Union’s 2012 strike for which I organized solidarity support. I’ve been active in the UFT since my first year teaching and became a delegate at a large Brooklyn school in 2019. I organize with the Movement of Rank and File Educators (MORE) caucus, working to reform the union into a vehicle for change that is strike-ready and anti-racist. In the schools I’ve worked in, I’ve organized to confront abusive admin and challenge exclusionary admissions policies.

I’ve written on a range of topics, including a research essay on Richard Parrish, a former UFT Vice President who opposed the union’s 1968 strikes against the community control movement. I have a variety of interests I write about, from birds and conservation to the class struggle.
